Thursday February 4th, 2010 Landmark Restaurant Noon - Dan Roper, editor and owner of Georgia Backroads magazine, was our guest speaker.  We had a great time hearing about the Battle of Etowah.  Check his magazine out at www.georgiabackroads.com.   

  We had a great turnout on Saturday November 14, 2009 for the Dedication Service for Revolutionary War Patriot Benjamin Wofford (1767-1836).  Special thanks to the award winning Georgia Society SAR Color Guard, the Colonel Elijah Clarke Militia, 8th Regiment Fife and Drum, Zachery Darnell/Bugler, Joe Dunaway/Bagpipe and the Rome SAR Chapter Revolutionary Patriot Grave Committee:  Ralph and Jeanette Treadaway, Danny and Dorothy Shelby, and Harry and Bert Treadaway.

S.A.R. National AMERICANISM POSTER CONTEST / Rome Chapter takes Second Place in Georgia State Contest.
 
The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution offers an AMERICANISM POSTER CONTEST to 4th and 5th grade elementary students. The competition is designed to support students in their study of the American Revolution. The theme is selected each year by the Americanism Committee at the Spring Trustee meeting. The theme of this year's competition is "Paul Revere's Ride."
 
On February 17, Compatriots Jeff Kelly (in Georgia Revolutionary Uniform) and Bob Evans introduced the AMERICANISM POSTER CONTEST to students at UNITY CHRISTIAN SCHOOL. The 1st place winner is 5th grader LAUREN MOYE. Lauren's award winning poster was submitted to the Georgia S.A.R. State competition. On March 12, Terry Manning, the S.A.R. Educational Committee Chairman sent the following message -- "Congratulations on winning SECOND PLACE in the Georgia National Contest.
 
At our April S.A.R. meeting, Lauren will be honored with a check for $50.00 (state), a red ribbon and State Certificate.
 
Please mark your calendar and plan to join your fellow S.A.R. Compatriots in support of you local S.A.R. Rome Chapter and in support of the S.A.R. Youth Programs
